05.First Aid Knowledge (1)
In daily life, accidental injuries are difficult to avoid and predict. If we do not seek timely medical treatment or operate improperly, it is likely to cause harm to ourselves or others. So, it is very necessary to master some first aid knowledge.
Ankle sprain:
After ankle sprain, stop walking and do not rub or rotate the injured joint to avoid aggravating the injury. Immediately apply a cold towel or ice cubes to the affected area to help reduce swelling, relieve pain, and alleviate muscle spasms.
Change to hot compress after 24 hours. If there is internal bleeding, it is best to use an elastic bandage to apply pressure and wrap it up. If there is a fracture, it is best to fix the injured area with a splint or wooden stick and seek medical attention as soon as possible.
Eyes in sand:
The eyes are the most delicate organs. If sand is not removed in time, there will be pain when blinking, and it can also cause inflammation, ulceration, and even blindness. When foreign objects enter the eyes, it is most taboo to rub the eyes vigorously, use dry wipes or towels to wipe the eyes. The correct approach is to open your eyes and ask your partner to help lift your eyelids to check your white eye (conjunctiva), lower eyelid, and cornea. If the foreign object is on the eyelid or white part of the eye, you can use a tissue dipped in a little pure water to gently wipe off the foreign object (when at home, it is best to use a cotton swab dipped in a little antibiotic eye drops to wipe off the foreign object);
If the foreign body is located in the upper eyelid, cornea, or deeply embedded, it must be promptly treated at the hospital.
hypoglycemia:
The main clinical symptoms of hypoglycemia are hypoglycemia syndrome, which can include palpitations, hunger, weakness, trembling hands and feet, pale skin, sweating, increased heart rate, and mild elevation of blood pressure.
If it is only mild hypoglycemia and the patient is conscious, they can eat a few candies, a few cookies, or drink half a cup of sugar water to quickly correct the hypoglycemia. Generally, the symptoms of hypoglycemia will disappear after more than ten minutes; If the above methods still have no effect or the patient is confused, they should be immediately sent to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Flying insects crawl into the ears:
Flying insects can enter the ear canal. Do not use your fingers or other objects to dig them out, as they may penetrate deeper into the eardrum and cause hearing loss. The correct approach is to go to a dark place and use a flashlight to illuminate the ear canal, utilizing the phototaxis of insects and using light to lure out flying insects.
You can also drop a few drops of cooking oil into the ear canal to wet the wings of the flying insects and prevent them from spreading, and then use an ear spoon to remove the insects from the ear canal. If the above methods do not work, you should go to the hospital for treatment immediately.
Bee sting:
If you are stung by a bee, you should first remove the remaining stinger, gently squeeze the wound, squeeze out the venom, and apply a little ammonia or soda water. If you are stung by a wasp, you should apply vinegar water and venom, and apply cold compress locally to reduce swelling and pain. If there are abnormal reactions such as nausea and dizziness, one should immediately seek medical attention at the hospital.
Rhinitis:
Saltwater nasal washing method: 2 grams of salt, 100 milliliters of water, boil, and add distilled water to a small bottle. Dip a cotton ball in distilled salt water and drip it into the affected nasal cavity, then gently press both sides of the nose with your fingers.
Nasal bleeding:
Do not look up when experiencing nosebleeds, as this not only fails to stop the bleeding, but can also lead to it being inhaled into the mouth and respiratory tract. The correct approach is to pinch both sides of the nose with your fingers for 4-8 minutes, or use a cotton ball soaked in ice water to fill the nasal cavity and compress to stop bleeding. If these methods cannot stop the bleeding, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Body odor:
Take 30g of ginger, chop it into small pieces, soak it in regular medical alcohol, seal the bottle for 1 week, extract the filtrate, and bottle it for later use. Dip a cotton swab or cotton ball in the filtrate and apply it to the armpits 2-3 times a day for one month.
Accidentally swallowed mercury:
If mercury in the thermometer is accidentally swallowed, it will bind to enzymes and proteins containing thiol groups in the body, affecting their activity and leading to heavy metal poisoning. Although the mercury content in the thermometer is not high, taking it can also cause oral inflammation, acute gastroenteritis, oral erosion, ulcers, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms.
Accidentally biting the thermometer and swallowing mercury, rinse your mouth first, then drink some egg white or milk to remove residual mercury from your mouth. It can also bind the protein in egg white or milk with the ingested mercury, protecting the gastric mucosa and reducing mercury absorption.
Pneumothorax:
Some people, especially elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), may experience pneumothorax after coughing hard, exercising vigorously, or laughing loudly. Chest pain may worsen upon deep inhalation and radiate to the shoulders and back. In severe cases, emergency situations such as difficulty breathing and decreased blood pressure may also occur.
In this situation, it is forbidden to pat the back and move the patient to avoid exacerbating chest discomfort. The patient should be placed in a semi recumbent position. If oxygen is available at home, it should be administered immediately and an ambulance should be called.
Scald:
Once a burn occurs, the burned area should be immediately rinsed with cold water or cold applied for about 15 minutes to relieve pain and reduce the severity of the burn.
Do not apply medicine to the wound without permission, and do not use methods such as soy sauce or vegetable oil to treat the wound. If there are blisters on the burned area, do not puncture them, cover them with clean gauze, and then go to the hospital for treatment.
Cat and dog bites: Some people, after being bitten by animals, only have bite marks or claw marks on their bodies, thinking that there is no need to treat them without any wounds. This practice is actually very dangerous. Because bite marks or claw marks may cause skin damage that is not visible to the naked eye, and rabies virus may also invade from wounds.
Vaccination should be administered in a timely and sufficient manner. The patient must receive a intramuscular injection of the vaccine on the day of the bite, as well as on the 3rd, 7th, 14th, and 30th day after the bite. It must be injected into the deltoid muscle of the upper arm or the inner thigh, and not into the buttocks to avoid affecting the effectiveness of the vaccine. 、
After 10 days of complete injection, venous blood should be drawn for antibody testing. If the antibody titer reaches or exceeds the standard of 3 units/milliliter, it represents the achievement of immune effect. If it is lower than the standard, the number of injections should be appropriately increased to ensure disease prevention effect.
Gas poisoning:
When a gas leak is detected, the correct approach is to immediately turn off the gas and open the window for ventilation. Rescuers should take a deep breath before entering a room filled with gas, and then cover their mouth and nose with a wet towel or handkerchief to prevent poisoning.
Do not turn on the lights, ring the bell, make phone calls, or use lighters, matches, etc. until the gas has dissipated, in order to avoid causing an explosion. Then, move the poisoned person to a well ventilated area and loosen their collar and belt. Observe their consciousness, heartbeat, and breathing. If there is no heartbeat or breathing, immediately perform artificial respiration and chest compressions; If there is still heartbeat or breathing, immediately call the emergency number and take the patient to the hospital for hyperbaric oxygen therapy to avoid any sequelae.
